Dr. William Ruleman’s new book March 29, 2011Posted by mplibrary in @ your library.
Tennessee Wesleyan College Professor of English Dr. William Ruleman has translated a new volume of stories entitled Vienna Spring: Early Novellas and Stories written by Stefan Zweig. While Zweig (1881 – 1942) was a well-known Austrian writer in his day, Dr. Ruleman’s translation from the German marks the first time these stories have been available in English.
As Dr. Ruleman describes the book for us, “The compelling pieces in this early collection by Zweig, translated into English for the first time, depict young people trying to adapt to the harsh realities of his native Vienna at the dawn of the twentieth century; and as such they convey a theme that would figure not only in his later fiction but also in his own life as a Jewish writer in the Nazi era: the plight of highly sensitive souls in a crude and uncaring world.”
Dr. Ruleman, a portrait artist, painted the beautiful cover art for the book with his daughter Anne serving as model.
The book will soon be in our library and is also available from Amazon.com .
