Dr . William McDonald’s new 3 volume set, Christian Catechetical Texts, is published by Mellen Press and is a collection of historical catechisms from many centuries. And we helped! Rev used Interlibrary Loan to get many of his research materials.

New log ins at the library

We now have our own student/faculty log ins. Ask a library staff member for the new library log in which is different from the one used on the rest of the campus. And, when you use our patron PCs at the library this semester, you will need to log on and off like you do in the labs, rather than leaving the computer logged on.

Guests who are not TWC students or faculty have a different log in; library staff will log them on for 30 minutes at one of our upstairs computers.

The campus wireless network is available to everyone from their laptops with no log in.

EBSCO eBooks information

As you use the TWC library catalog, you will notice that the ebooks now look different. That’s because they are no longer Netlibrary ebooks, they are EBSCO ebooks. The same ebooks are there that you used before and should be just as easy to use as before.

One difference is the appearance of the “Download This eBook (Offline)” link. You now have the option of downloading the ebook for 7 days to read offline on the Adobe Digital Editions (ADE) ebook reader. Read more about that here. It involves setting up free accounts with both EBSCO and Adobe then downloading the ADE software to your computer.

Of course you can always read the ebook online as you have always done by clicking on the “eBook Full Text” link. Contact the library if you have questions about any of this.

New database: Films on Demand

New this year at the TWC Library: Films on Demand which contains thousands of educational films to stream to your computer and show in the classroom. Visit our Films on Demand link to check out the selection of films in all subject areas including history, literature, music, sociology, biology, earth science, math, religion, languages, business and much more. Film producers are the Films for the Humanities and Sciences, Cambridge Educational, Meridian Education, and Films Media Group.

You’ll also see the film titles and links as you search our online catalog; they will have the note “Streaming Audio/Video” at the left. Create a free account with Films on Demand to create lists of your favorite videos.

TWC Yearbooks are online

College yearbooks from the 1860′s to the present are now online via the Internet Archive! Click here http://www.archive.org/details/tennesseewesleyancollege to view yours. You can search by keyword, subject, title and author. The TWC Library has worked through the Appalachian College Association and Lyrasis to send archival materials to the Internet Archive for scanning, digitizing and preservation. We also plan to digitize the college catalogs and some Methodist historical materials. This and other digitization projects enable us to preserve and make visible materials that were once locked away in dusty collections. Yes, your sixties hairdo is preserved for all eternity. Enjoy!

Welcome, Carlton Ealy

We wish to welcome our newest library staff member, Carlton Ealy, pictured above with Brenda Jaquish. We miss Tyler Dunsmore, our former evening employee, and wish him well. Carlton has taken over the night shift, so stop in between 7pm and midnight or on Fridays between noon and 5pm to say hello.

Carlton, a 1991 TWC graduate, majored in business administration and minored in history. A night owl with lots of energy, he enjoys the nighttime student crowd, commenting that the time flies. ”There’s life in the library at night,” he says. Carlton is using his interest in history to assist us with our Digital Library of Appalachia project in which we scan historic TWC photographs and documents to view online. We have lucked out to get Carlton on our team.
